SEANA SPRING 2024 GET-TOGETHER AT MARYSVILLE
January 6, 2025
The Ringwood Field Naturalists Club hosted a very successful spring 2024 camp-out at Marysville over the weekend 25 to 27 October. In all, 96 field naturalists attended and participated in a range of excursions as well as enjoying 2 interesting evening talks.
For the weekend there was a range of excursions including:
- all day excursions to either Mt Cathedral, Lake Mountain or Alexandra, and
- half-day excursions to Buxton for the ‘Meeting of the waters’, Steavenson Falls, Cambarville Trails and many short walks around the town.
After the Saturday and Sunday evening meal there was a guest speaker:
- on Saturday evening Sue Parry spoke on “The recovery of Lake Mountain after the 2009 fires, and the wealth of wildflowers since”. She provided an insight into the recovery efforts by volunteers as well as the abundance of flowering plants that have returned.
- Sunday evening was Karina Cartwright who spoke on “Three decades of recovering the Helmeted Honeyeater”. Karina provided insight into the recovery program being conducted at Healesville Sanctuary as well as challenges associated with the recovery.
Thanks go to the members of the sub-committee (who worked on the event for over 12 months), to all the excursion leaders and facilitators, and to all the other helpers whose efforts made for a successful event.
