SEANA Spring 2023 Camp
Excursion 3: Mullungdung State Forest | Saturday, full day |
Leaders: Jack Weerts & Marja Bouman | Facilitator: Julie Parker |
The excursion involved a drive along bush tracks with several stops to explore particular vegetation types. Mullungdung SF covers 13,800ha of bush, dry Eucalypt woodland interspersed with more damp areas. The area is known for a wide range of Eucalypts, Acacias and in particular Orchids which can carpet the forest floor in good years.
Orchid species that I saw and photographed:
Thelymitra ixioides, Thelymitra pauciflora, Caladenia aurantiaca, Caladenia catenata, Caleana major.
Some other plants particularly noted:
Caesia parviflora var. parviflora, Correa reflexa var. speciosa, Acacia genistifolia subsp. attenuata, Gompholobium latifolium, Hypericum gramineum, Leptorhynchos nitidulus, Opercularia varia, Eucalyptus bosistoana, Eucalyptus sieberi.
We also saw a bracket fungus – Laetiporus portentosus
