With 11 participants, the morning was spent driving along 5-Mile Road, stopping numerous times to explore the flora of the slashed zone beside the road, looking especially for orchids. The first stop right at the start of the road revealed deep pink flowers of Pink Fairies, Caladenia latifolia, and large areas of Running Postman, Kennedia prostrata.

We next stopped to look for a yellow variety of the Wallflower Orchid. We soon found the conventional Wallflowers and eventually located a large patch of pure yellow ones. Also found were Hare Orchid Leptoceras menziesii Plain-lip Spider-orchid Caladenia clavigera Tiny Fingers C. pusilla Common Onion-orchid Microtis unifolia Slender Sun-orchid Thelymitra pauciflora Twisted Sun-orchid T. flexuosa Salmon Sun-orchid, T. rubra Other plant sightings here included Milkmaids Burchardia umbellata Blue Stars Chamaescilla corymbosa Silver Banksia Banksia marginata Climbing Lignum Muehlenbeckia adpressa Seaberry Saltbush Rhagodia candolleana Bower Spinach Tetragonia implexicoma Honey-pots Acrotriche serrulata |
